Teacher Introduction This project is a culmination of my course work in Norfolk State University's, Designing Technology Infused Project-Based Learning Experiences (502A), instructed by Tom Spencer. The project was designed for my 10-12th grade Graphic Communications class at First Colonial High School. I originally came up with the concept while my students were arguing about the November 2006 Virginia State elections. During their argument there was very little constructive information coming forth. Instead, the students were verbally attacking one another's ideas and political fundamentals. Many students were left frustrated by this. For a solution I decided to design a project based around a WebQuest. The student's project started off with them exploring their own political feelings. This information was then posted and replied to using Microsoft SharePoint's Discussion feature. Here the students could express their ideas equally and compose themselves while replying to other students' discussions. The Discussion acted as a brainstorming activity, even though the students were not directly told to "brainstorm". The next step was for the students to express those feelings and ideas through graphic design. Specifically, mixed media using discarded election signs as canvases. |
