Sharepoint Studentportal

Students:

Students use the address:
http://studentportal.vbschools.com/students/##### (student enters student number)

If they are logged on to the network on a computer at school, they enter their student number instead of the ### and they don’t have to enter passwords, etc.

If they are working from home, http://studentportal.vbschools.com/students will bring up a log in dialog for their user name: Vbstudents\### and their password

Teachers:

Teachers use the address:
http://studentportal.vbschools.com/teachers/xxxxxxx (teacher enters network username)

If they are logged on to the network on a computer at school, they don’t have to enter passwords, etc.

If they are working from home, http://studentportal.vbschools.com/teachers will bring up a log in dialog for their user name:

Vbschools\xxxxxxxxx and their password

Problems Logging on Outside School:

If you are having problems logging in from home here are some tips to try that have worked for other users.  Try the tips one at a time and test your connection each time in order to identify what step actually enables you to connect successfully.   Knowing which tip works best with your connection will save you time and give us information to help other users.

1.  Use Internet Explorer.  If you use another browser with your internet service provider (AOL, Safari), establish your internet connection, then minimize your ISP browser and open Internet Explorer.  IE will "piggy back" on your ISP's connection.

2.  Make sure you are working with IE 6 or later.  To identify the version you are currently using, open IE and go to Help > About Internet Explorer.  If you need to update your version of IE, go to http://www.microsoft.com

3.  Use the correct login name.  Because you are not at school (not logged on to the
school network) you must use the correct SharePoint login name that includes “vbstudents.”  You have two options for username/login name to use with Windows XP or
Windows 2000.

Option A:  vbstudents\#####
Option B:
#####@vbstudents

If you are using a Windows 98 computer your username is only your student number but you have to type vbstudents for your domain.

4.  If you are having trouble logging in, clear your Cookies and Temporary Internet files.  While in IE, go to Tools > Internet Options and click on Delete Cookies and Delete Files.

5.  Update Windows.  While you have IE open, go to Tools > Windows Update.  This may take a while and you may need to restart your computer.

6.  Check your Internet security settings.  You may need to lower the security level and/or add *.vbschools.com to your "trusted sites."

7.  If you have a firewall set up on your home computer, check your firewall settings and read the documentation to see if you need to make adjustments.
