Business Department

Taking two semester courses in the Business Department or one year course will satisfy the practical art requirement for graduation. Combining a semester course in business with another semester course in Technology, Marketing, or Health and Human Services will also fulfill this requirement.

Future Business Leaders

Students enrolled in a course in the Business Department are encouraged to join the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).

KEYBOARDING (BE 6151)
One-half credit, One semester, Grades 9-12
Students acquire skills in developing touch key-boarding techniques and become proficient com-puter users. The course includes word processing applications. Review of standard grammar usage and development of proofreading and editing techniques enable students to compose, organize, and edit documents at the keyboard.

KEYBOARDING APPLICATIONS (BE 6152)
One-half credit, One semester, Grades 9-12
Prerequisite: Keyboarding
Students elevate skills on the keyboard, increasing both speed and accuracy. Students produce a variety of advanced personal and business documents. Emphasis is placed on formatting of documents, including research papers, letters, tables, and tech-nical reports.

DESKTOP PUBLISHING/MULTIMEDIA
PRESENTATIONS (BE 6630)
One-half credit, One semester, Grades 11-12
Students develop proficiency in using desktop pub-lishing software to create a variety of printed publications. Students will incorporate journalistic principles in design and layout of publications.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
FUNDAMENTALS (BE 6670)
One credit, One year, Grades 9-10
Students will be introduced to skills related to in-formation technology basics, Internet fundamentals, networking systems, computer maintenance, upgrading, trouble-shooting, computer applications, programming, graphics, Web page design, and interactive media.

COMPUTER INFORMATION
SYSTEMS (BE 6635)1 2 3

Prerequisite: Keyboarding
Students learn to create a variety of word processing documents that contain columns, clip art, tables, and mail merges; master basic spreadsheet functions and charting; and use databases to create, sort, query, and design reports. Students will also create presentations with PowerPoint.

ADVANCED COMPUTER
INFORMATION SYSTEMS (BE 6625)1 2 3

Prerequisite: Computer Information Systems
This course is the capstone of the business program. Students study advanced intergraded computer applications, networking, telecommunications, the impact of new and emerging technologies, and preparation for employment. Units of instruction include desktop publishing applications, business application, multimedia applications, Internet searches, animation, and web page development.

ACCOUNTING (BE 6320) 2 3
One credit, One year, Grades 10-12
Students study the basic principles, concepts, and practices of the accounting cycle using manual and electronic systems. You will learn payroll, inventory control, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
ADVANCED ACCOUNTING (BE6613) 2 3
One Credit, One year
Prerequisite Accounting, Grades 1-12
Students study advanced features in accounting through simulation projects.

BUSINESS LAW (BE 6132)
One–half credit, One semester, Grades 10-12
Students study the legal rights and responsibili-ties of adult and minors in civil and criminal actions. Emphasis is placed on laws as applied to ethics, contracts, sales, court systems, employment, and personal business transactions.

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT/
VIRTUAL ENTERPRISE (BE 6136) 3
One crdit, One year, Grades 11-12
Using the Virtual Enterprise method of instruc-tion, students will set up and operate a business on line that will put into practice management skills that will be learned, such as examining the environments that affect business and models of organization. Management skills and techniques are learned and practiced. The student run business will conduct business with other virtual enterprise locations throughout the world.
