Introduction to Theatre Arts

Introduction to Theatre Arts will give students a sampling of all aspects of theatre and will trace its development throughout history. The students will be offered the opportunity to act, mime, improvise, a design for the stage, and explore career options in the field of theatre. The full-year course is offered to all students in grades 9-12 for a fine arts credit and is the prerequisite for all continued work in the theatre arts curriculum except for Theatre Appreciation.
Studio Theatre

Prerequisite: Introduction to Theatre Arts and audition/interview with instructor
Studio Theatre is a full-year course that offers students opportunities to refine skills acquired in previous theatre arts courses. Both performers and technicians will collaborate on performances and bring their skills into the final arena or development-sharing their art with an audience. Emphasis is place don performance, skills development, and script interpretation. Designing, acting, directing, and playwriting are the main areas studied. Students will develop real skills for entering the theatre such as drama therapy, recreational theatre, and available staff positions. After-school rehearsals and performances are required of all students. Prerequisites are the successful completion of Introduction to Theatre Arts and an audition/interview with the instructor.
Theatre Appreciation

Theatre Appreciation is a semester course offered to all students, grades 9-1`2, in order to provide an introduction to the theatre. The course will implement the use of video performances in conjunction with scripts and analytical materials so that students may view, experience, analyze, and critique theatrical forms including comedy, drama, musical, and contemporary theatre.

Topics in Performance Theatre is offered to students in grades 10-12 who have successfully completed Introduction to Theatre Arts. This course affords students the opportunity to gain expertise in all elements of performance through practical application. The students will study vocal techniques, mime, improvisation, contemporary theatre, playing comedy, auditing subtext, acting for the camera, and playwriting. Through a rotation of topics, the students will be able to take this course for six semesters for credit.

Through a rotation of topics, the students will be able to take this course for six semesters for credit.
