Course Descriptions

Grades 9-12

Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) courses include instruction in naval-oriented subjects which emphasize leadership, self-discipline, patriotism, and citizenship.

Each NJROTC unit has its own organizational structure that is administered and operated by the student-cadets. Cadets participate in academic, athletic, and military competitions at the local, state, and national levels. Students completing 2-4 years of the program may enter the military at an advanced pay grade. Opportunities for being accepted in the various service academies and earning ROTC scholarships are enhanced by participation in the NJROTC program.

Virginia Beach high schools offering NJROTC are First Colonial, Green Run, Princess Anne, and Salem. The completion of two years of NJROTC with one course being beyond level two will meet the occupational preparation program option for the requirement of a third mathematics or science credit for students in grades 10-12.
